Overview

Tiny is an app that goes beyond buying and selling small homes, this app will foster a community where individuals can come together and support one another, offering tiny solutions to ease the housing crisis.

Challenge
Our challenge was relatively straightforward:  foster a like-minded community for advice and inspiration.
Question
How might we make regulatory information and trusted trades more accessible and reliable for individuals on their tiny home ownership and building journey, fostering a supportive and inspiring community environment?
Research
We conducted a series of user interviews and a survey to validate our ideas around the tiny homes community.

Key findings:

- Importance of finding a balance between sustainability, amenities, and cost-efficiency.
- Concern regarding the search for a suitable location to park a tiny home.
- Challenging to navigate legal, council, and permit requirements associated with tiny home ownership.

• “Navigating any legal/council/permit requirements can be tricky.”

• “Finding a balance between sustainability, amenities and cost is a consideration.”

• “People are looking for flexibility of lifestyle and a simpler way of living.”

Design
To address the main challenges, we decided to design an app that allows to find the information needed in a reduced and simple menu with 4 main categories:
• Market (buy, sell, rent - land, tiny homes, materials and plans)
• Inspirational section
• Trades directory
• Community Blog.
As a guest, Tiny app would allow users to find inspirations and items as tiny homes or trades, but to contact them, users must sign up.

Testing
The lo-fi objectives encompassed concept validation to test the app's core concepts, leveraging user feedback to pinpoint usability issues, conducting user flow evaluation for navigation refinement, and identifying pain points and challenges in the user experience.
Following the completion of the low-fidelity version, we identified the following user issues:

• Unclear iconography.
• Users suggested to change icons names (Buy/Sell to Market and TradeFinder for Tradies).
• Title “Explore” in Inspiration section derived to users confusion.
• “Be inspired” is confusing, not consistency with main menu buttons.
• How are tradies organised on directory? (location, proximity, add location, postal code fill option?)
• Add seller’s information on “materials” screen.

What’s next
Going forward, the project will prioritise:

Marketplace Integration: Introducing diverse and secure payment methods in our marketplace.
Educational Content: Developing a comprehensive library of educational content related to sustainable living.
Collaborations and Partnerships: Partnering with tiny home builders, designers, and architects can bring exclusive content, offers, and expertise to the app's users, adding further value.
User Feedback and Iteration: Continually gathering user feedback for improvement and help prioritise future updates.
